Fiasco
Bully Pulpit Games
It is hard to find a good tabletop game that allows you to act out a story that will make you feel like you just played a role in a movie, but Fiasco does this. I have personally never played Fiasco but have watched countless hours of people playing it on YouTube. Whether it was professional Writers and Actors in Will Wheaton's "Tabletop" or just a few friends filming a "Fiasco" night, the stories were always entertaining. This game helps set you up for story telling success while setting your character up for total and utter disaster.
Fiasco is inspired by cinematic tales of small time capers gone disastrously wrong – inspired by films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. You’ll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably all go south in a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination. Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, your guy just might end up back where he started.
Bully Pulpit Games has an updated version of the game on Kickstarter now that is going to help streamline your experience. If you have ever played you know that there are a ton of dice needed but this new version will be all card based. The other aspect of Fiasco that is being streamlined is the character creation. What takes about 45 minutes to an hour to do in the original game will now take much less time.
I have recently introduced my family to the game Once Upon a Time and they seemed to really like it. I feel like this game will be my next step. My personal goal is to try and play more Role Playing/Story Telling games. I look forward to bringing this one to the table and playing with my family
