Are you looking for a new party game? Maybe Manicdotes is a good party option for you. So grab a beer and some friends and let me tell you about Manicdotes.
Manicdotes is a fast paced story telling party game for 2 to 8+ players where you will be using Story Starter and Words cards. On your turn you will be fabricating a story with the use of these cards. First you will have your story starter card which will tell you how you must start your story.
The second card you will be using is a word card. This card consists of 5 different words that you will need to use in your story. You will then have a few seconds to gather your thoughts and then flip the 90 second sand timer over and tell your story.
As you are telling your story everyone else will be trying to guess the words that are on your card. After you are done you will gain points for any words not guessed and everyone else will gain a point for any guessed words. That is how easy this game is to play, but is it good?
At first I played a 2 player game and loved the game. I enjoy story telling games and enjoyed how fast paced and easy the game is. My wife is not usually one to play a game with a story telling mechanic but I was able to get her to play it too, she even laughed at both mine and her own ridiculous stories. There are not to many party games I would recommend for just 2 players but this one however worked very well and was a pretty good filler game.
How is it for larger groups? I was able to play this game with a few different groups from 3 to 5 players and can say that the game scaled very well. There are different point systems for different numbers of players and this kept the game fast and fun. I did find us spending a little more time on seeing what words were guessed and what words were not guessed but we were laughing most of the time anyway so it didn't really matter.
8+ players? I could see myself playing this game with 8+ players but as the numbers do get higher I feel the time in between turns will increase game "downtime" a little. No matter what, I think you will laugh at all of the incredibly ridiculous stories created, I would just like to hear one ridiculous story after another.
Do I recommend this? If you are into story telling or party games, then yes I would recommend this to you. What I like about this game is that it will make people play a game with a story telling mechanic without even noticing. I like this because it may cause someone that would have never played this type of game before to start, and I'm all about bringing more games to more people. So yes, I do recommend this game and for 20 Dollars I think you can have your party cracking up!
